When I first started collecting crystals, I worried I was going to do everything “wrong.” Should I polish them? Leave them in the sun? Wash them in water? Over time — and with a little trial and error — I learned that caring for crystals is actually simple. It’s less about rules and more about respect.
Keep it simple
Most days, I just wipe the dust off with a soft cloth. If a piece looks a little dull, I’ll rinse it quickly under lukewarm water with the tiniest bit of mild soap, then dry it right away. That’s usually enough to bring back the glow.
Watch the sunlight
I love how my rose quartz looks in the morning light, but I learned the hard way that too much sun can fade it. Now I give my crystals light in small doses — a few hours of soft daylight — and then move them to a safer spot.
Be mindful of heat and cold
Obsidian especially doesn’t like extremes. Once I left a piece too close to a heater, and it felt like its surface changed. Since then, I treat them like I would nice furniture: no harsh heat, no sudden cold.
Energy resets
This part is more personal. Some nights I place my crystals on the windowsill during a full moon. Other times I pass them through sage smoke. Do they “need” it? Maybe not. But it feels grounding, and it keeps me connected to them.
Storage matters
When I rotate pieces around the house, I wrap the ones I’m not using in soft fabric or place them in padded boxes. It stops them from scratching each other and makes unwrapping them later feel like a small ritual.
What I’ve realized
Taking care of crystals isn’t complicated. It’s about slowing down for a moment, giving them a bit of attention, and letting them stay as beautiful as the day they came into your life. With a little care, they keep glowing — and they remind me to slow down too.
